At the age of 8, Jacques Lusseyran lost his sight due to an accident in school. One of the best books I’ve ever read. I make note of this because I think it is also how we all become blind or at least crippled in a day to day sense. Be engaged, no matter how, but be engaged.

The material is thought-provoking, but the writing itself is not remarkably poignant and left little impression on me. He also described the colors he could see as different musical instruments were played in a concert.
This book is one of the most touching and heart wrenching I have ever read. He formed a Resistance movement wh This was slow going for quite a while, but if you hang in there you will find this book to be fascinating. The happy-go-lucky Paris schoolboy woke up, his eyes bandaged.
He finished his schooling determined to participate in the world around him. He only uses first names for those he is involved with and only details his own experiences. I hardly needed to look out for myself…I was free now to help the others; not always, not much, but in my own way I could help.
