I have wanted to read The Calvary Road for years, having heard it recommended often, so I was surprised when initially I struggled. What a convicting statement! The road I will never walk alone because I will be in constant fellowship with Jesus and fellow Christians, heading to Jerusalem, our destination in life. Our church is seeking revival and this book was recommended by my pastor.
I wish I had a better grasp to really understand the meaning of the phrase, but my best guess is that it means what I’ve written above — repentance that really completes the transaction of receiving forgiveness and cleansing and moves on with life. Roy Hession — was a British evangelist and author. I highlighted a ton and it’s a great reminder at how we ought to live. His preaching subsequently incorporated these new insights.

It was doctrine and teaching that I have been able to immediately apply to my life and see the blessedness of living a life of brokenness before the Lord. Altogether, Roy had ten books published, some of them co-authored with his wife Revel Hession.
Deliveranceby Schabort Du Plessis is a brief article dealing with demonic possession. There is nothing spectacular about this life, no emotional experiences to sigh after and wait for. As many, I thought there were low times and high times, and according to this book, that is not the case.
Hession explains how one can practically go about living such a life. He even says so in hesslon forward. Yet, God’s grace is enough to sustain me, lift me up, and cover me even my hurts and sinfulness.
Even though the message is straightforward even “simple” at times, the conviction and honestness with which it was delivered makes it a worthwhile read. It is the constant experience of the simplest Christian who “walks in the light,” but Hesaion saw that walking in a the light means an altogether new sensitiveness to sin, a calling things by their proper name of sin, such as pride, hardness, doubt, fear, self pity, which are often passed over as merely human reaction.

If you want a more sufficient and theologically convicting exhortation back to the cross, put down this book and pick up Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s The Cost of Discipleship. This book outlines God’s conditions which were previously met and led to revival.
The awareness of our sin and the confession of it, is also something the book speaks a lot of in order to have revival. Jesus took that away — how dare you snatch it back?
It is not man’s life, but God’s life, the life of Jesus, filling us and flowing through us. I skipped the epilogue with the interview because I was rushing to finish, but I should go back and finish that sometime.
